Help! Tranny on the fritz
Help! Tranny on the fritz
Saga started Friday, noticed on the way to work I had no TC lockup. Otherwise tranny was fine, this trans only has about 30K miles since rebuilt, no abuse other than a few short heavy pulls on level, Saturday, I used my buddys DBR to try the TC Engage test, no workey. Figured I probably had a TC solenoid problem, so I priced out parts and was going to order Monday. Today, out of the blue, it acted like it disengaged, then re-engaged 3rd. After that, it seems like I lose OD and even 3rd sometimes. Fluid is up to level, and is clean, bright and does not smell burnt.
C'mon guys, please tell me I am not losing my trans, I don't have the money for this right now.........

One more thing, I was just out playing with it, it gets to the point where it will not pull forwards or back after it idles for a bit. You shut it off and wait less than 30 seconds, start it back up an it engages immediately, both forwards and reverse.
Since I must have some form of electrical issue with the TC lockup, could it also be the Pressure Governor?

No codes stored, have not been able to have the DRB on while in operation.
I brought it in to work today, 6 miles though, as soon as I felt it disengage, I shut it off, waited for 5 seconds and started it back up. Had to do that 4 times in 6 miles.
Pressure regulator is what I am thinking, now I just need to figure out what the heck could do what it is doing.....

Ok DRB on, 3/4th gear engage test, pressure transducer is showing .92V at 0 RPM, so I think I may need to replace transducer and Gov. solenoid, but I still have trans. techs telling me it should not cause a total loss of forward or reverse motion. Hopefully I can get it in the air tonight and pull the pan.
The funny thing is, it is still not showing any codes, including when it just will not move at all.
Something isn't right, thats for sure.

Ok, pan's off, everything is clean as a pin, very, very little fine clutch debris in the bottom of the pan.
I dunno, I can get all the parts, TC/OD lockup solenoid and wiring harness, Pressure sensor and Governor solenoid for pretty close to cost, so I think I may just replace it all.
Unless someone else can suggest something else, that is ?

Update, after a call to Dave Gioerend, who was of the opinion that it was something mechanical, I checked out the switch valve and governor valve, put a new filter and fluid in, and have tranny again.
Haven't had a chance to take it past TC lockup MPH yet, but the way it is shifting, I think that was it.
