help with track bar install
help with track bar install
Had this in the other message board but thought it may be more correctly placed here.....

I tried a search for install info but it turned up nothing so maybe you guys/gals can help.

Just installed a new Moog made track bar from CarQuest last weekend and I think it's shot again (less than 300 miles).

Wondering if I did something wrong installing it that made it go bad. I unbolted the old one, bolted the new one in place, then torqued the bolts to 70 for the ball stud and 130 for the bolt. Gave it a single shot of grease and all was well. Until yesterday that is.

I re-checked the the torque on the ball stub and it was a little loose, about one flat of the castle nut. Still get play turning the wheel.

Did I just get a bad part? The only other play I can see is the pitman arm bushing/bearing but I figured the DSS would take care of that. I want to get a new one on but hate to repeat any mistake I made...any tricks to getting then tightened correctly that I should know of?

thanks alot,

Roy
Re:help with track bar install
thanks for the tip Partsman, I'll check it, but the play I was referring to was in the ball end of the track bar, yes the new one is moving when the steering wheel is turned just like the old one did, just not as bad.
I can't really see how I did anything wrong when installing it unless I didn't put enough grease into it, but I still don't think it should move like it does after only 300 or so miles (I drive 100 miles a day all but 3 miles is interstate to work)
Guess I stick a new one on and see what happens
thanks again

Re:help with track bar install
I know Moog has a very good reputation that's why I keep wondering if I could have messed up the install. I did have to use an extension that was too short really, so I got a new one yesterday, loosened it up and re-torqued it but it didn't seem to tighten any further.

I'm going to keep it on until I get my Darins steering stabilizer on and see if it is just my imagination.
