im in mississippi heading to baltimore, im in an 05 3500 qd 4x4 dually work truck, im pulling a 28' ft box trailer empty. here is the problem i am pouring black smoke and the truck has no power on top end. coming from a stop it feels fine but once i get up to 65 and hit the gas it starts surging really bad and pouring the smoke. does anyone have any idea what is happening, oh and i checked the codes and its not throwing any at all. Thanks in advance.

Do you have the plastic intercooler. Check that! If it is plastic check the ends of it to see if they seperated from the metal core.

thats what i was thinking at first to but i can still hear it singing, i pulled over for about 20 mins and let it sit and now it seems to be running a little better... could it be an injector going out or something like that???? i have to be in baltimore by tom. to pick up my equipment and then heading to utah from there so i can really afford for this thing to leave me stranded.

I know you probably checked but intercooler boots, I blew a hose and drove 400 miles and spun my turbo bearing. Check the intercoole hoses

well got a bigger problem now. let the truck sit for a couple of hours whil eating thursday night while we were still in mississippi got back in the truck and everything felt good and the truck was running fine. got to knoxville in the wee hours and it did it again only this time it blowing oil out of the blow by ever where, the whole back of the truck and trailer are cover. let it sit for a little while longer and it started running fine again so we kept going had to be in baltimore by noon yesterday. Well we were 30 miles outside of baltimore and things went down hill quick could not get the truck over 50 and everytime i pushed the throttle it felt like i pressed the brake and to top everything off it started knocking very very loud finally made it to the hotel and called the nearest dodge deal. they wont take the truck until monday. i will keep everyone informed on what happens. thanks for everyones advice.

what did you find upon inspection of the things above?

any diesel in the oil? if you started blowing oil/diesel out of the vent tube then you might have some injector problems

intercooler/boot inspection?

Man, it sounds like a couple of problems. First was prob the intercooler, then injectors or possibly a bad turbo.

Not good! Thats all I can say! Hope the dealer treats you good, but it isn't sounding favorable. Long downtime ahead, with visions of holes in pistons, and/or worn out bearings! I'm not bashing you or anything, but should have quit driving as soon as you had the first sign of trouble. Typically they don't fix themselves or get better on their own. Sorry for your troubles and I hope the dealer gets you fixed up quick! Keep us up to date.

i checked all the things above and couldnt find anything at all. The reason i kept driving it is because it is a company truck and i had a dead line to make. i had to meet the client by noon yesterday. worst part is i have to have the truck back to head to utah by the end of this week, and the trailer wil be loaded full this time but i dont see that happening. My uncle said if the truck isnt fixed by the end of the week he is getting a duramax and trading in the dodge. god i hope not, i had to plead my case for 3 months to get this truck and i dont want to be stuck in a chevy.
