help with my 99
On my way to work yesterday i noticed my voltage meeter was very low, low enough for my check guages light to come on. I stopped and had my alt. tested and it tested bad. No body in this area could have one until tomorrow, so i went ahead and drove it into work. On my way home this morning the volt meeter was so low i didn't think i was going to make it. Then all of the sudden my truck started smoking in the cab. I pulled over and found a wire to my brake box had nurnt up. So i cut the wire back so that it will not do any more damage. As i start back down the road i notice my "wait to start" light was on and stayed on. I stopped again and turned the truck off and restarted it. The light stayed on. Well it was 3'oclock in the morning so i went ahead and drove on home and it stayed on the whole way as well as my lights dimming and volt meeter was on 9 volts. Any one know if my low volts would keep the "wait to start" light on or do i have a nother problem. I hope not it wasn't a good morning.

The WTS light shouldn't be on, I wonder if your voltage is too low to even energize some / many of your circuits?
My alternator went Tango a while back, I believe a new one was close to $300 (if I remember right?); I had it rebuilt for $90-ish, no problems since.
