HELP I think im SCREWED!!!!!
My truck is an 03 4x4 dually with nearly 200,000 miles on it. For the last 100-130,000 miles the truck has been 600+ Hp with injectors, turbo, head studs, intakes, exhaust, injection pump, tranny, and a FASS, EDGE HOT box. Now here is the deal, my truck was at running temp (195) and I had my Edge turned to level 1 which is 50-60 Hp and I was easing into it and in 3rd gear around 2500-2750 RPMs I heard a pop followed by a knocking noise and LOTS of white smoke out of my stacks. I shut it down right away and coasted into a parking lot and looked the engine over, nothing was leaking out but around my valve cover gasket spacer on top of the head there was oil coming out around the mating surface of the head and spacer (it wasnt gushing out but there was oil where there had never been oil) and when i looked in my radiator my coolant was way low, about half gone. Plus when i went to shut my truck down it didnt quit right away like normal, it idled down REALLY rough for a few seconds. This whole time there is white smoke just constantly coming out of my stacks for about 5 minutes then it stopped. My coolant looked a little bit foggier than it should have been and my overflow is nearly dry. Now here is my question, im thinking its one of the following: BLOWN HEAD GASKET / CRACKED HEAD / CRACKED BLOCK / DROPPED A VALVE / BURNED UP #6 / or just totally FUBARed my entire engine. So PLEASE any feedback would be AWESOME. I had it towed into the dealer where I work and plan on going in tomorrow morning (on my 1st Saturday off in a while) and start to tear it down. Im hoping and praying to god that its only a head gasket and nothing more. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. And if you want PM a message to me with your ideas,
Good luck here - it's likey a dropped valve.
Headgaskets typically fail "softly" meaning no pops, bangs, or other noisemaking attributes. But with something like a dropped valve, the headgasket and possibly the head itself will likey suffer consequences.
Sorry about this...

Thanks, im hoping for the head gasket vs anything else, my ride should pick me up soon to take me up to the dealership so I can get to work. It just kinda scares me all of the white smoke coming out of my stacks after I shut it down. But I will hopefully know more by noon today. Thanks again for the input

After my experiance at Caterpillar I am leaning toward the head gasket for sure and maybe a dropped valve! You could have locked up the piston like glenn-k said then that would explain the smoke out of your stack it could have been steam coming out of that piston with all the water in there steamin out the head!
Hope it isn't to bad!
THANK GOD my first idea of the problem was right, ITS JUST A BLOWN HEAD GASKET

Again thanks for all of the sugestions. Now its time for me to port and polish the head along with a 3 angle valve job and lets top it off with a cam and some high RPM springs. Probably some twins too
