Question Help - - '93 won't crank

my '93 won't crank, click or turn over.
but can start it by putting power to solenoid starter wire, and then it cranks over and starts right away. the
it appears to be a sensor problem, like the saftey switch for park or neutral?
but I don't know where these are located, and how to bypass them to begin the process of elimination.
or possibly the ignition isn't making a connection, or there is a relay/fuse not working--if there is one . any suggestions?

Unrelated to this I think, the wait to start light comes on, and remains on until it seems the engine temp rises. the heater grid never comes on before or after starting.

And.... where/what is are the "Sticky" I read about??

Help please.........

Try wiggleing the shift lever while you crank it, also try it in neutral shift position. i also think there is a starter relay in there someware.
GOOD LUCK

If you fill out your signature, it will give us a bit more to go on to help you. For starters, is your truck an automatic or 5-speed? The automatic should have a neutral safety switch. Like TomTom mentioned, holding the key in the start position while moving the shifter up or down may diagnose a mis-adjusted NSS.

The 5-speed has a safety switch on the clutch petal. That should be pretty easy to short across to diagnose although I haven't tried it.

It could also be that your starter contacts or brushes are worn causing a no crank condition. If tapping on the starter case cures the problem, a simple rebuild may be in order.

There are other possibilities as well such as fusible links or burned wiring but these are some starting points.

You can find the sticky at the top of the first page of the 1st gen forum but here is a link for you.

Hope that this helps get you started.
