HELP! 04 Lift Pump Replaced, Still Dies... Battle With Dealer

I need your help big time guys,
So it is Dad's truck (04.5 with ~140K or so on it). He was idling at lunch a couple of months ago and it just died on him. So he restarted and could only idle for a couple of minutes, then it came to and started running fine. It did this another time a few days later. I went home (2 hours away as I'm in College) and changed the fuel filter for him and put some power service (white) in the tank. It ran great for a few more weeks, then died on him on his way home from work. He couldn't restart it so it got towed to the dealer where they diagnosed a faulty lift pump. I figured this was honest as it is an external pump and have read of quite a few going bad on here.

Well he gets the in-tank pump installed and starts driving to work the next day and it dies again - won't restart. Gets towed back to the dealer and the "diesel tech" says there's nothing wrong with it, could be bad fuel. Apparently on the first visit they said it was "low on fuel, added 5 gallons +additive 911". I'm pretty sure they added Diesel 911, which puzzles me... but anyway, it had 1/2 tank when brought in so not sure what they are doing there.

I am going to go in to talk to them to try to get this figured out because they want an additional $250 for diagnosing the 2nd time and changing the fuel filter without even finding the problem!

My question is, do you guys know of any other common problems it could be? I've read of FCA valves failing, but the posts make it sound like they only make the truck run rough. I need any ammo and specs I can get to try to either figure out the real problem, or prove that this dealership does not know what they're doing to get our $940 back!

Your help is greatly appreciated and much needed!!!

The dealership in VA that originally installed my in-tank pump did not hookup the new wiring harness correctly. My truck was running on the CP3 until the fuel level dropped below 1/2 tank and it quit again. My local dealership fixed the problem. The tech said there was no voltage going to the in-tank pump. Can you hear your in-tank pump running with the key in the on position? My in-tank pump is easy to hear by the driver's side rear wheel well before I start the truck.
