Replaced lift pump..still 0 fuel pressure

My truck died while going down the highway, first it sputtered so I turned the Comp off and it acted normal until about a 1/2 mile later when I stopped at a light then it died. I tried crancking it but watched the fuel pressure drop to zero.

Towed it home, and replaced the lift pump today and there is still 0 fuel pressure on the gauge. It acts like it wants to move to 1. The pump is buzzing, all the lines and hoses look good, replaced the fuel filter, there is fuel in the tank...so what gives? Any help gang will be appreciated.

James

You might me getting air in the system from somewhere. Maybe a broken pickup tube?

I have heard of LP's bad out of the box too. Bench test the old one and see if you can get it to pump fuel.

The lift pump I replaced was only a month old. I imagine you have to drop the tank to check the pickup tube?

Two lift pumps in one month?

Better find out what the root cause is...

If its even the lift pump. There must be some kind of restriciton in the tank itself.

Ok...I took the inlet side hose of off the lift pump and fuel was coming through. I cycled the pump and bumped the starter about 5 times and the fuel pressure slowly rose with each bump until it reached 12-14 psi, so I tried to start it but the pressure once again dropped to zero before settling on 2psi now. What in the world happened with that?

Crack the fuel line between the filter and IP and see if there's adequate flow.

When you go to start the truck the FP will drop to zero. After it starts it should go to normal.
