Had to be towed home today!

I was pulling a small utility trailer with a lawn mower on it when suddenly no power.

The truck was still running but there was nothing when I stepped on the pedal. I pulled off to the side of the road and shut the truck off. I tried to restart in and it would not start. It would crank but would not fire.

I had it towed home and now I need advice on what to do next.

What do I check? How do I check?

Thanks for your help.

Jim

No smoking or knocking. It did not try to start. Just cranking with no firing.

Can you hear your lift pump kick on? Does your wait to start light come on? Same thing happened to me 9 months ago and it was the ECM that went out.

I can hear a "Buzzing" type of sound near the fuel filter after I tried cranking it. not sure if this is the lift pump. I am not to familiar with working on these diesels although I am quite mechanically inclined.

I'm not sure about the wait to start light. When I left the house, the truck started right up. The truck had not been started in over a month but it started without any problems. 10 minutes later... it died

Where is the ECM on these trucks and can they be tested?

The buzz you hear is the lift pump, I would crack the banjo bolt on the vp with the key on and see if fuel comes out, if it does I would say Vp44
