i am recently new to the dodge ram diesel club . Anyway i got an engine light the other day and i downloaded the code and i got p1740, it has something to with the transmission and i have no idea what? so if anyone can shed some light it would be appreciated. It seems to be shifting alright , and it was a little low on fluid.

another quick question what brand of fluid is good for the trannies.

i went to the link but i need to know what are the parts exactly going bad or are bad and if so where is a good spot to get parts? , are they hard to change? and how much?

There may not be anything wrong. Do you know if the trans has been rebuilt? Or at least a replacement convertor?

California models will sometimes throw this code if you have a "tighter" torque convertor. They will usually do this when the pickup is still cold, and it is being driving "gently". If you are getting this code when it is hot then that is not normal. If you are getting this code only when cold, try driving it so that it will not shift from 3rd locked to 4th unlocked, until it's warm.

ok...thanks im not sure if its' been rebuilt. but im gonna get the trranny filter changed and the tranny flushed and go from there....first.





worst case scenario if i have to change it outl.....where is a good place to get a rebuilt tranny....ebay or not....
