gauge wiring

Ok the install has been relatively easy. Now I am hooking up power to all the lights on the gauges. I cannot for the life of me find a fuse to tap for the dimmer switch so I can just plug and play. Now all three gauges are connected with splicers to the dimmer switch in the dash for the head lights and interior lights. Why dont all three gauges have the same level of light? I am having a really hard time trying to figure this out. If anyone can give the the right area to wire my 96 for all three gauges it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My first inclination for you to chase is around the radio wiring harness. Most radios have a dimmer lead in the wiring harness so when night falls and you turn on your headlights, the radio lights dim so not to blind you when you are running from the cops. If my memory serves me correclty, most of the dimmer leads in the pickups that I have wired have been orange with a white stripe. Your best bet is to go to a car audio store and ask them which wire it is. If they don't know, tell them to open a radio wiring harness adapter for your year model truck and it will have a key in it telling you which color wire it is. That should help you. If not, give me a hollar. JWB

I have my gauge lights spliced to the light for the ash tray. Works fine and dims with all dash lights.

Did you splice all lights into one wire or a different power wire for each light.

Mine too are wired to the ash tray light. I ran one wire form each of the 2 ash tray light wires up to the guages and then Y'd them off to the guages. It doesn't matter seeing how it's a light bulb and only 12volts which wire goes to where on the light just as long as they are all the same.

Good luck,

Corey

I just took off the light for the ashtray, and wired it that way. I dont really need an ashtray light anyways.
