G56 Failure

New member here with a major problem. I've got an '05 Ram 3500 with the G56 6 speed manual tranny. The truck is just over a year old with 20,000 miles on it. It recently started making a nasty grinding noise (when releasing the clutch pedal) only going from 2-3 and then 3-4. It shifts fine, it just makes a bad sound. Doesn't do it every time either. Anyway, I took it into the dealer again (they recently replaced the slave cylinder thinking this was part of the problem), now they think the pilot bearing is bad. They also have concerns about the dual mass fly wheel. My biggest concern, is that they want me to flip the bill for this as the tranny is unfortunately out of warranty. I don't think I should have to but of course that's a debate I have to work out with Dodge. What do you guys think? I haven't heard many pilot bearings simply failing. Any thoughts on that? What else could it be? This really bums me out as this is my first Dodge truck (loyal Ford owner until the 6.0 came out) and I really like the truck. Just don't need a problem like this already. As a side note, I haven't done any mods to this truck. The most work the truck sees is a 7500lb boat on the weekends. Thanks for any advice and guidance on this issue.

Dodge only gives 1yr/12k on the manual trannys! Just my luck. I've had this truck about 13 months now and obviously the mileage is well past the 12k. Regardless, this isn't something I'd expect to see on this early in ownership.

I believe 1yr/12k is on the clutch and its wearable components only. I would check you owners manual for full details.

If the warranty on a manual ranny is less than an auto, I'd tell Dodge to stick that truck somewhere it might not feel very good. That's ridiculous!!!

I thought it was a 7 year , 70,000 mile powertrain waranty. I would guess the thing about the manual transmission would be the wearable part (disc, pressure plate, pilot & throw out brg). But the published 7 year 70,000 mile powertrain waranty would be very misleading.

I call BS also, the transmission isn't a "wear item".

Well guys, in my '05 warranty book; page 6, section F, it lists the items that are only covered for the 12/12k period. Clutch discs is all that is listed. Page 10 under "What's covered under DaimlerChrysler's warranties" section Transmission; states in bold letters the following, Manual transmission clutch parts are not covered at any time. Clear as mud isn't it? I called the 1-800 number in the book and talked to a company rep that basically told me the same thing. They were very unwilling to work with me on this at their level. Hopefully the regional rep will be a bit more flexible.

Talk with another dealer, as well. This is definetly not the time to be thinking about a new clutch, 20k miles??? There should really be no issue with this, you're dealer wants to loose your business apparently.

When you have a problem like this, go right to www.dodge.com and follow the customer assistance prompts. You will need your VIN, and then enter the relevant details. They will get back to you and contact your servicing dealer to solve these types of issues.

Also, when you get back to your dealer discuss the oil fill notification that should have been provided you regarding the G56. Just like the NV5600 they have to be overfilled or they blow the reverse cluster and chew up the syncros. The dealer knows all about this issue with a G-56 if they stay on top of their Dodge notifications!
