Fuel Leak - Help...
Its fairly cool (around -12F)...started the 12V up to warm up and found a major fuel leak from the fuel filter drain tube...I opened and closed the drain valve a few times and its still leaking.
Never had the lever assembly apart. I assume there is an o-ring or two in the lever assembly. Anyone know size?
Please guys some HELP before I tear into it....!!!

Sorry, Dr. I've never had one apart. If it's leaking too bad to drive, you may as well take it apart, then you can get a ride to the hardware store with some o-rings to match up. Good luck.
A few days???????? Don't you mean months
Sorry for the jab when your havin troubles Doc. Sounds like you hit it right about the H2O freezing. Hopefully it wont be a big deal to fix. If I remember right the 12v was a little tougher to pull the filter assembly off than the 24v was but not a huge deal. Good luck
Yeah -27C right now
Does anyone know if a 94-95 spin on type fuel filter will fit the 98?
I hate messing with the cartridge filter and would like to change this out.

The spin on filter will not fit your truck as it sits Doc , but if you give me a minute to run outside and peak at a 95 and a 97 sitting side by side i will tell you if it is possible to change the filter head.
Ok , i just crawled under the hood of both trucks out in the yard...
It looks to me like the filter head for a spin on filter would be a direct replacement for the cartridge style. It looks like the fuel lines are identicle also , so no need to replce any of them for not lining up correctly.
I would call up cummins and at least price the filter head, it would be a very simple swap if you did it. You would only need the filter head, filter , and the WIF sensor/drain. You will Probably need a CPL for an older engine, mine is CPL 1959. If they need an ESN Just let me know , it would only take a minute to go look.
Other than that , i beleive there is an O ring on that drain , i would pull the canister off and have a look at it (inside where it is warm of course) and see what i could find. Not sure where you would find an O ring in town there though...

Never tried it myself but have read that the drain valve can be replaced with a commonly availible oil drain plug from the autoparts.
Either that or bring the whole unit inside and let it thaw.

Not a problem Doc, Good luck and let me know how it goes.
I have not looked at the tractor yet ( i have to may cummins engines kickin around here) but it may be interhcangeable too , the Case tractors with 3.9 and 5.9 cummins engines have a dual filter system, and no WIF sensor to screw with.

I don't have the ESN handy , but i can tell you my CPL # is 1959 , that should do the trick , i can look at my ESN tomorrow, and i will get it to you if the CPL does not work. Give me a call at lunch time ( between 12-1 my time) tomorrow if you still need my ESN.
NO rush...
When you can...
BTW, I got it fixed. I pulled off the filter housing and took it apart. There are tow orings that seal the drain lever to the filter housing. Greased them up with some grease and reintsalled it. Looked like there may be an oring inside the lever assembly but the plastic was still cold and I didnt want to force anything. I couldnt see any reason that it was leaking.
Lesson learned, empty your seperator every fuel stop (especially if you live in a cold climate).

Last winter mine was leaking from the WIF drain and it was moisture that froze and was pushing the valve open...when I checked it, I could see a minute piece of ice in there... it solved itself by warming up...
