Fuel filter replacement

Hey all,

Like alot of other guys on here I'm having problems with gelling right now. +3F, but overnights of -10F. I've been adding grey PS to my fuel lately, but no anti-gel. I guess I made the mistake of thinking it had anti-gel effects.

Up til now, all my service has been done by my dealer and this is my first diesel, so I'd like someone to run me through replacing the fuel filter since it will need it now.

I've got an '04 1/2 600 since I thought I read somewhere that the procedure is different- self-priming filter if I remember correctly.

If it helps, I found this procedure online in another forum- Is this pretty accurate for my model year?

Any help would be appreciated! Need to get it running as soon as I can.

Thanks!

I think that all machines should have a full set of gages [ in this case fuel pressure ] , cycling several times till the gage comes up , with out gage its still the same , you just cann't see the pressure , just cycle the key a few times .
After a few filter changes you should be able to hear the sound difference between the no pressure & having pressure .
Most electric fuel pump cars/trucks the pump runs for about 10 sec. after the ing. sw. is turned to the start pos. , so with changing the filter , the pump has to run that much more to fill the lines , filter [ putting the filter/canister together & filling with fuel before installing will make it quicker ] .

Well, after doing some further research on a different forum, I was able to find some instructions for my model year.

Got it replaced without any issues. Used 50/50 mix with Diesel 911 to fill the fuel filter. Had to jump-start it and it took awhile, but I finally got it fired up. Burnt thick gray smoke for a few minutes. Let it warm up about 5-6 minutes since I had to jump it, then left the house. Died about 200 ft. down the road, so I fired it back up and it died again another 200 ft. down the road. Fired back up again, sat for about 5-10 min. in drive w/ the parking brake engaged until the temp needle started climbing. Didn't have another glitch after that.

Any thoughts on the dying bit? The wife mentioned the same thing happened to her last week, but it was about 20 degrees warmer (+3F right now). This is my third winter with it, but the first year I've had these issues and we had much colder days than this last year. Is this being complicated by the ULSD?

Thanks!
