FS:99 Jetta - OEM alarm - won't crank

Please cross post, this if you are on a VW forum.

So, as it turns out, VW's are notorious for bad electronics, and the door locking/ alarm system is the first to go.

The key fobs are heinou$ expen$ive, like $75 or so,
And it's an hour of Labor to get it programmed.
so we let that slide.

so the kid uses the door lock/unlock to lock the doors, because the POS VW's WILL NOT LET YOU LOCK the doors.

so she locked the doors last nite, alarm set,
this morning, unlocked doors, alarm won't go off.

how do i get this POS to crank, and who wants to buy it?

$8000 obo

Sounds like the car does not like the key. There is some info on the manual about that. I feel feef for ya. I have an 01 with the bad MAF sensor bad window regulators and plugged up intake manifold. Oh and the peeling paint. But here is a fix that may work: find your key #xxxx; turn the ignition on; twist the clock **** clockwise while simultaneously pressing reset button for trip odometer counter; In the display for the trip odometer counter "0000" appears and the first digit blinks. Using the reset button for the trip odometer counter, the first digit can now be moved from "0" through "9"; press reset button for trip odometer counter until valid first digit of secret number is displayed, e.g. "5"; in the trip odometer counter display "5000" appears. Twist setting **** for clock.
In the trip odometer counter display "5000" appears and the 2nd digit blinks. press reset button for trip odometer counter until valid 2nd digit of secret # is displayed, e.g "3" Twist setting **** for clock.
In the trip odometer counter display "5300" appears the the 3rd digit blinks. press the reset button for the odometer counter until the valid 3rd digit of secret # is displayed. e.g. "4". Twist setting **** for clock.
In the trip odometer counter display "5340 appears and the fourth digit blinks. Press the reset button for trip odomoeter counter until valid 4th digit of secret number is displayed, e.g. "9: In the trip odometer counter display "5349" appears (example).
On instrument cluster, simultaneously twist clock setting **** and press reset button for trip odometer counter. If the valid secret number has been input correctly: trip odometer display is shown again in trip odometer counter.
This is for a 2001 it should work for a 1999. It will get it started only then off to the dealer.

i dont know anything about your car but

i did have this one problem with my truck's stock alarm
it lost its mind and did not work right anymore
i had to push the unlock button on the remote then turn the key to get it to start
even when the alarm wasnt armed

i followed the wires in the truck and found a thicker wire that was the kill switch for the alarm and by passed the alarm and hasn't bother me since
