Front axle Universal issues

Well Guy's here we go again! Every time I turn around I have another problem with this truck! All I can say is it's a good darn thing I'm a mechanic Lol! Ok Guy's I had a front caliper lock up on my today and it was about that time to change the pads anyway and do a complete inspection of the front end etc. I was doing my regular thing and came across the bad Universal on the driver side. Anyway I have not had this apart to do anything yet and need to get this wrapped up fairly quick so I can go to work on Monday. I am all ears Lol Thanks in advance.....

Just pull the caliper, bearing and axle shaft. Replace the u-joint as you do with any other one and reverse. Getting the bearing out can be a pain sometimes. There is an ok trick to get them out. Use a punch or something similar and place it on the bolt heads once loosened up. Turn the wheel till the other end is against the axle then use the force fo the steering to push them out. You'll have to do this a few times going back and forth on each side of the bearing.

Using a press is the easiest way of changing the front axle universal. It slides right out after you pull the caliper and pull the rotor. pull the spindle hub and slide it out. Make sure to spray every thing with a good penetrating oil first after removing the caliper. For the rotor and spindle a 14$ puller from Harbor freight is the easiest way without doing any harm.

don't need a puller

You don't need a puller use the power steering to push the rotor off the spindle if you need to email direct
