four wheel drive not working

Went out to run some errands while it was snowing, put it in four wheel drive and nothing. The light does not even come on. Just had transmission rebuilt a week ago. Any ideas?

There's a vacuum switch on top of the transfer case that controls the front axle disconnect. Check to see if the tranny shop hooked the vacuum lines back up correctly or you might have a vacuum leak.

You probably have a vacuum problem. Posilock makes a cable that you can put in place of all that vacuum stuff to where you can lock and unlock the front end manually from in the cab so you don't have to worry about if it's locked in or not. I had it on my old 95 and loved it.

the vacuum lines probably worn through under the transfer case. A little jb weld fixed it for me on the side of the road.

There is a posi lock kit they sell on ebay for around $160, when mine quits thats what I plan on fixing it with. I would check the vaccum lines first though to make sure everything is hooked up. Good Luck

Thumbs up

Hey everybody thanks for all the input! This site is awesome! Turns out the transmission shop got the vacuum line backwards. What a relief. Just got it fixed this morning and 4WD works perfectly!
