Extremely rough idle at start up!!!
Extremely rough idle at start up!!!
Ok guys heres the deal. I live in S.D. and took a trip 2.5hrs north to fontana for the nascar race towing a 29' trailer in 100+ temp. Once I got there I let the truck idle with the heater on for about 15 mins. to help cool it down before shutting it off. Then realized I need to flip my rig around to block the sun. I started the truck and it idled extremely rough I tried to give it a little fuel to see it would clear but no avail. I turned it off and back on again and it was fine but the check engine light came on and gave me a code which I believe was P0071. Any ideas, also I have the EDGE "juice installed going on 20K with it.
a few months ago my lift pump went out. towed it to the dealer and the replaced it with a "upgraded" in tank lift pump. maybe 5K ago. hell I don't know maybe the "juice" is my headache then it's worth.
I have the whole package! with the dash mount monitor. but it only runs like this on occassion? this is what i've done to the truck straight pipe exhaust, edge juice power mod. air raid and 2" leveling kit with 20" rims I don't see what could cause any of this. I've been having problems off/on for months now. Should I go get a Ford........ J/K!!!!!!!
i dunno what year ur truck is but i assume u have a 24 valve...ur vp44 pump may be takign apuke...its a twitchy pump and many have fallen to it...get some diesel treatment and put a couple in the tank..to see if u can help...but u may have to start looking to get a rebuilt pump

i barely know anyhting about the common rails...its not the same pump as the 24 valvers before that so maybe double check everyhting before u assume pump with ur year...form what ive heard the common rail system is excellent
I have no clue what to do here. All I know is that my wife drive the thing like its a corvette and she's in a wheel chair so I really don't want it to die on her since she can't hike for help if need be.
Maybe the lift pump, and if it goes probably shortly thereafter the CP3. Get a fuel pressure gage and check pressure. If not that maybe a partially plugged injector?

I was talking to the old lady about getting some gages. and of course she said we have the attitude monitor. I tell her it's more accurate. but the cost a bunch of cash. we'll see
