Dumb Winter Dilemma

Tonite, while at friends house, my A/C decided to quit working. I can hear compressor cycling off/on, but I get no cold air out of system. Usually during this time of year this should be no big issue, but we are awaiting a "Texas Winter" (3 solid days of almost freezing in a row). It is 75 degrees out with a relative humidity of 100% (fog), and my windows are fogging up. Question is low pessure swich is not locking out compressor (it cycles albeit irregularly) and no strange noises are coming from compressor when it runs,

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions???

Heater valve is closed because I have no heat while selector switch is in cooling.

Thanks for info in advance!!!!!!

the low pressure switch is working as is should, as you may know the defrost call for compressor to come on and when it see's that the pressure is low, it kicks compressor off to prevent damage to rings of compressor because if the refrigerant is low, this also means that the oil for compressor is not suffieciant. I have the low pressure wires marked on my truck so if you need this info. let me know and i'll be glad to look it up

unfortunatly the low pressure has no reset nor does the compressor so it continues to cycle on and off. the worst damage you could get out of this is premature clutch where on comp.

I've got all the cold air I can stand right now - whether I need it or not:

Thanks for the input guys!! I decided to pull the A/C relay out of the board under the hood to keep the thing from cycling. I will get some 134A and try to juice her up. As far as "cold air", the temps last week when it went out was 75-80 degrees. The cold front everyone else is experiencing has just arrived this morning and its a balmy 40 right now. We are expecting to have the ice age show up tommorrow so I guess I'll wait till the thaw to add the juice......

Again, THANKS!!!

Gary
