Diesel in engine oil ??

Drove my truck home last night & smelled diesel when I pulled it into the garage. Looked for a leak & found none. Drove to work today(25miles) & truck smells like a space heater with a bad ignition module !!! I looked under with the truck running & lots of smoke/vapor out the breather tube.I checked for codes & got P 0191. I checked the oil & its at least 2 quarts over full & real thin with an almost solvent smell. I just changed the oil myself 1200 miles ago & know it wasn't over filled.(new filter & 11qts. rotella 15-40 run & topped off to proper level on stick 2 weeks ago) Called the dealer & rep. wants it towed in. Any Ideas whats going on here ?? 2004.5 ram 3500 SRW auto. no mods. 17,800 miles. Thanks in advance............Tom

Sounds like the one of the injectors was loose and the fuel is spilling by the injector into the head and down into the sump..

Not a good thing.. Fuel dilution can do some bearing damage if not taken care of right away..

Good luck and don't take it back till its right!!!

Did you have any bearing damage when it happened to you ?? how has your truck run since ?? Any difference in oil consumption ?

Makes a huge mess but you can pull the valve cover off and start it up. The "leaker" will make a fuel mist that you can usually see through all the flying oil. Another method would be to pull all the injectors and install new seals on them and put everything back together. Bet you'll be paying attention more to your oil level from now on.

A little differance here since mine is a 99 but I have a small leak of fuel into the oil, usually about a quart high for each oil change, but mine is an injector pickup tube is not sealing right. Waiting to change out injectors and fix it all at once. The shops I have talked to have told me that this amount shouldn't be an issue as long as I check oil levels and change oil regularly. Not that much differance between oil and diesel fuel, just a little thinner.

no bearing damage that i know of,stil sounds pretty tight, it's been 5k miles
since it happend i haven't noticed any oil consumption or smoke, i guess it's
fine.the only thing is it sound's like the rest of the injectors are louder than before
but that could be because it took them a month to fix it.

Got it back last night.........parts came in early.........They installed a new # 4 injector, changed oil & filter & gave big red a bath. Still smells a little like diesel but I'm hoping that'll wear off soon !! The tech said it was 4 quarts overfull (yikes) when they drained it. That should have washed the inside out real good ! I'll definitely keep watch on the oil level much more than before. The truck runs good with apparenetly no ill effects from the ordeal. THANKS EVERYONE for your help..........TOM

Three things that I can think of can cause this problem, injector issues like yours, fuel pump seal, and a leak in the lift pump diaphram.
