death wobble??????????

just curious how the death wobble starts
i have a vibration between 65 and 70mph but not at any other speed
is this the same or do i need to re balance tires thanks kirby

I would rebalance your tires first, especially if you have lots of miles on them since they were balanced. I have seen the weights come off before and that will certainly give you some shake.

Other than that, get under the front end while someone "wiggles" the steering wheel (from 11-1 o'clock) and make sure that everything is tight under there. If you see any play in any of the connections (tie rod ends, etc.) it is time to replace. Is yours a 4X4?

The only time has done it, I hit a pot hole on I95 at about 65mph, just about put me in the median strip before i could get her stopped. Since then replaced the stock shock with dual shocks and stablizers and DDS steering brace. Haven't had a problem since.

You have a few more components to worry about then, but a shake at highway speeds usually equates to balancing. I would start there. Go to a good shop and watch them balance them if you can. You would be amazed how much wobble the wheels get in them after a while. I guess maybe our trucks weigh a lot or something.

If the front end is in good shape there can still be some wobble. Centramatics solved mine permanantly. RC
