Re:what is death wobble

Please clarify something. Are you telling us that you have no shocks installed after the lift?

Re:what is death wobble

I understand it to be the track bar (bushings) going bad. This creates a shake when a bump is hit and it gets exagerrated as you drive down the road. I am sure there are more definitions than this, and others will chime in and let you know what they think. LE

Re:what is death wobble

I think my '97 used to do it, I put in a Skyjacker dual steering stabilizer kit and it NEVER happened again.

Re:what is death wobble

Death wobble usally occcurs on 4wd and is a violent shaking of the front end after hitting a bump in the road. It can get so violent that the front suspension is banging up and down. You may feel as though your going to loose control. Only way to stop it is to really get on the brakes and get your speed down.

Common solutions: Replace the tracking bar or install a LUKES-LINK. THe luke link is much cheapers and an easy fix. You may also need new or stiffer front shocks. Ball joints can be shot as well.

On my last 4x4 at 50,000 miles I had it bad. I put in a lukes link, and switched to firestone 10 ply tires. Problem solved. Kept the truck till it had 175,000 on it and never had the problem again. You can check the tracking bar by doing the following. Start it up and with it in park or neutral, parking brake set, have someone turn the wheel a few inches in each direction. The tracking bar should not move at all where it is connected via the tie rod on the end of the tracking bar on the driver side. If there is any play at all, this may be causing some of, if not all of, your problem. If the problem persists, I would suggest you change the shocks to a stiffer, high quality shock. Still have the problem, check the rest of your ball joints and tie rod ends for play. Change as needed.

If you have it, you need to fix it. They don't call it the death wobble for nothing. It's a serious problem.

Good luck and hope this helps some.
