Dead Truck!!! Need Help
Dead Truck!!! Need Help
Hi all, was heading home from Wisc on Sat, back to MI through the greater Chicago area- when the truck decided to die on the side of I-90. It lost power, so I pushed in the clutch and it died. Stopped it, restarted it, and got another 5 miles and it did the same thing again. This time, no restart. Cranks real fast, have fuel to the IP (solid 15psi). Got it towed to the inlaws nearby, and went to Autozone. Pulled codes, and got 5 of them. 4 of which had to do with the IP. I don't have the code numbers right now, but I will post them later when I get the slips that have them on there. The truck has around 180,000 mi on the original VP44. I am assuming the IP died, but would like to confirm before I order a new one. If anyone can comment, I'd really appreciate it. THanks guys-
These are the codes I got from the reader at autozone-
P0251- (PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the electrical circuit for injection pump fuel metering control)
P0380- (PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the electrical circuit for glow plug heater circuit A)
P0250- Fuel injection pump fuel metering control range /performance (cam/rotor/injector)
P1688- ECM has detected an internal failure of the fuel injection pump module
P1689- ECM detected it could not communicate with injection pump module
These are all the codes it threw- Based on what I am seeing here, I am assuming the IP died, but I would like to have other opinions before I purchase a new pump. The only other possiblity I explored was the notion that my pump wire (which is tapped for the Edge Comp) may have broken. I inspected it to the best of my abilities, but was unable to determine for sure. The clip-on splice connector it came with is on the wire, and it does not appear to be broken, but since it is tucked down in there, I couldn't tell for sure. Would that wire breaking cause all of this, or is the pump dead. Any help would be appreciated, because if I need to, I am going to order the pump 1st thing Mon. morning. Thanks-
