I hate to say it but,....the 0216 (Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure)
sounds like vp44 going south. I hope i'm wrong but maybe some other guys might have a better prognosis for you. Good luck.

216 code= dying VP!! My VP is on its way out also. I got dead pedal pullin out onto the street about 10 days ago ! I have been readin on these diesel forums and in the last 2 weeks there has been a rash of VP's dying or dead. Wonder if the warming of spring temps is bring them on. There is a LOT of them dying so something is causing it or coincedence ! Man my pants pocket hurts!!

Be sure to check the fuel pressure supply to the injection pump, if the lift pump is bad it will ruin the injection pump.

Its possible. I have been runnin 2 stroke or howes . Now that it has warmed up Im runnin bio-diesel. I got 152,000 on mine so I guess thats about the life span from what i have been readin. Mine starts right up with just a touch of the key, no smoke , runns good then all of a sudden I get a dead pedal. Got the dreaded 216 code !!

is it true if the lift pump is screwed, but still half *** works, that this could ruin the injector pump? my lp has been screwed for a while now. whats a new injector pump worth?
