Dead Pedal/VP-44
About 6 months ago while towing a horse trailer I noticed in cruise control that the engine would not come off of idle (like coasting downhill and then having to accelerate) and would sputter a little and then catch and take off. I just took it out of cruise and didn't notice the problem any more. On the way back from our trip fuel pressure went to 0 when this same problem happened again, so I took it to the dealer and had the 4th LP put in. Told them about the other problem and they blamed it on the LP. Everything was fine for 5000 miles and the dead pedal came back. I have just been dealing with it until I almost got t-boned making a left turn with a big trailer. My FP is 15 at idle and I can't make it go below 7-8. So I came back here and did some research. I ran the codes and got 1693 and 0216. Is this just a matter of taking it to the dealer to have the VP replaced or do I have to wait for the truck to die? I have also had an intermitant starting problem since the first lift pump went out 40000 miles ago, mostly in the winter time but it has happened recently. Any thought on how to have the dealer take care of this with little hassle, the truck has 64000 on it?
Thanks,
Karl

Tell the service writer what you just told us about almost being T-boned. Have him write it up on their service slip along with the codes and sign it. Then tell him that way if you do get in an accident because they wouldn't change the vp under warranty it's their fault that cause the accident. That should get you a new vp.

Just take it to the Dealer and utter those magic words:
Loss of power, intermittent starting problem, dead peddle, throw in "surging" for good measure and let them see the P0216 code.
There shouldn't be any problem getting a new VP44 out of them.
(fingers crossed, salt over shoulder, knocking (or touching) wood)
