cylinder head R/R

Ok guys have done all the checks replaced parts trouble since before Christmas. Stoped at red light smoke everywhere engine missing. Had a 216 code about 6 months ago. I changed vp 44 runs real good except when cold smokes bad till warm then clears and runs good except a slight miss the longer it idles the worse it gets and will start smoking again.
I losened exhaust manifold best I can tell its #4 . replaced injector with #3 still smokes on #4 . Number 5 may be smoking some to there is so much smoke its hard to tell. I checked valve adj I bought a temp gun all are real close in temp . Guys I think I may have blown head gasket at 4-5 I also have some crankcase blowby.
Iam running 275 injectors took all those out had them pop tested all was good the truck only has 94k on it. My wife was with me when troble begain so no hot rodding- didnt get hot-exhaust temps running higher than nomal 25+ boast . Can anyone think of any other check or test before pulling head ? Is R/R procedure and specks availuable .
Thanks Gary

Think you will have to go deeper than the head gasket. Blowby points to piston/ring problems.

Could the gasket be blown close to an oil galley or at a bolt ? Probley pull this thing this evening -to cold right now . Cracked head maybe man iam trying everyway to keep from thinking pistola or rings. man thats bad but nothing we cant overcome just take it as it comes
Heck it could be me the one thats sick instead of my truck.
Thanks for the reply

Does the oil or radiator fluid have anything in them that they shouldn't? If not, that would also say maybe not headgasket.

I assume that when your replaced the VP44 you also replaced the LP? What's your FP?

I still think piston/rings but I have been wrong many times in my life!! Hope this is one of those times.

Working on cold iron with cold tools is not fun

Keep us posted on what you find.

Thats just it coolant normal -oil normal-power excellant- temp normal except egt alittle higher than norm. fuel pressure 15 idle 12 cruise 10 wot . When I say blowby its not an extrem amount but enough to know things arent right.
Thanks SBishop

Have a compression leakdown test done both on the engine cold and with the engine hot.

The 24 valve heads have a propensity to crack the head between the exhaust valves if the power is pushed. The cracks can be just enough to leak compression and result in warm missing, but sooner or later they will break through and you do not want the antifreeze in your engine or you are looking at a big buck fix.

Most of the performance guys have rebuilt performance heads set up that are less expensive than the OEM replacements, and changing them is not much of a problem as long as you follow the manual and realize that it is much easier to do if you remove the front cab mount bolts and jack the cab up a few inches so you have room to work around the goofy firewall.

Thanks RCW I put the exhaust back on and drove the truck again it is realy smoking bad till it warms then clears up. Iam going to drive it to my sons he has a nice garage its only about 10 miles.
Something interesting happened when I accelerated right before it cleared up it backfired in the exhaust I still hope its in the head or valve train. Should know in the next day or so.
Thanks guys
