Cylinder Head
Cylinder Head
Where can I get a head at for my 97' at a good price? I'm in need of one ASAP. Also, does anyone now what the going price is on a race head that been ported, polished, and o-ringed?
Re:Cylinder Head
Southern Smoker,
Are you just wanting the head or a new head, o-ringed, installed etc.
I suggest you give Jeff Garmon a call. He has nice head with what we feel is a better casting then original.

Re:Cylinder Head
David,
What do you mean by better casting than original? Is it a marine head? As for what happened to my head....too much nitrous will blow a gasket, melt a turbo, and warp an exhaust manifold. When the manifold warped, it pulled two ears off the head on 1 and 2 where the exh. manifold bolts up. After adding twins for the county fair this year, the weight and heat broke the rest of the top bolt holes off the head. That one is ruined and I'm in need of another whether it be a race head, marine head, or factory head. I would really like to get my hands on a ported, polished, and o-ringed marine head.

Re:Cylinder Head
Jeff is using an aftermarket casting. Usually, Jeff refuses to use aftermarket stuff but in this case, it is a little beefier and so far as held up to some pretty stupid abuse. The 12v head will also crack between valves and when bad enough, you can see it in the boost gauge as flutter at high boost pressures.
This head is not ported and polished. We did one and saw no gain over the factory design. This head is o-ringed and has Jeff's own valve/seat design. There is nothing cheap about it in quality or price but so far everyone we have removed has been perfect. 55 psi should not be an issue with and o-ringed head. This is the same head Jeff has been running for over a year in the Drag truck, and has in numerous of his high HP customers trucks.

Re:Cylinder Head
Im familair with the aftermarket castings. They are top quality like David stated.
More than enough guys are running them now for me to feel comfortable with saying, use them.
Unlike Jeff though we have seen a power increase with port work. EGT reduction on the blow down side has been tremendous too. I agree with Jeff on a better seat and valve as well.

I am seeing 62 psi before I let out of it and still building boost. Should the block be o-ringed also?
I run at 65 psi with an O-Ring in the head and a .020 marine gasket with no problems, this set up is good to 75 or so.

Re:Cylinder Head
I cant really understand porting. It seems like it would just make it weaker. I want my head as thick as possible. Those things aren't cheap especially when you lose your o-rings. I am going to get a head from jeff. Hopefully that will be my last head and I think it will pay for itself in the long run.
