Cut wire on pas. side frame rail, under ac pump!
I'm going to be driving to the east coast from Cali and need to fix it. any ideas what it is? I haven't had time to trace it yet. will try tonight. Thanks

Do you have any instrument warning lights on,or has something quit working? This would indicate which circuit problem would be from. Either way just clean ends with wire stripper, put heat shrink(2-3x length of butt connector) over one end,and use butt connector to join or just solder. Then slide heat shrink over area and heat up with lighter to shrink over splice for watertight connection.

I've had someone take care of my truck for the past year while I was away, so there are a few things that aren't working right. I'll just connect it like you said and see what's fixed! Thanks for the input. I've got a bunch to work on tomorrow. C

Heat shrinking
If you heat shrink for a splice unless you use the Raychem heat shrinks they aren't water proof! If you use regular heat shrink use RTV or Sika Flex over the splice then slide the H/S over it and shrink.

traced it
I traced it to the front axle and also noticed the breather for the axle has been dumping what seems like a bunch of oil. It's been one thing after another since I got back! Thanks for the input. I'd hate to have it corrode under the shrink wrap. I'd never be able to find the problem! I'll make sure to seal it. C

That is all I ever buy is waterproof heatshrink, can't remember name as big roll I have(250ft) doesn't have brand on it. There are a few brands out there that are watertight, if sized to gauge of wire properly. Good point to bring up though about RTV silicone.
If unsure what type you have(sealing type-glue will come out of end when heated), you can use RTV or similiar on inside of ends of heatshrink, when splice/solder is exposed to outside elements. When splice/solder is not exposed directly to elements, it's not required, but won't hurt either.
