crank sensor
It's job is to tell the PCM that the engine is indeed running. In Turn the PCM wil tell various other electrical components what to do , such as the charging system , a/c , as well as the tachometer.
Boy it sure does suck when it goes south on ya. Hope that doesn't happen to you. Mine went out and you have no power when that happens, if you have an auto, it does not like to tell your tranny to shift.
How would you lose power when your ESS (it is not actually a position sensor , it only tells the PCM how fast the engine is turning) Fails? a 97 is still mechanical injection, you could rip every wire off of the truck once it is running (provided something held up the shutoff lever) and it would still make full power.
The reason I asked the funtion of the crank sensor. When I first purchased my truck a year ago I did the KDP right away. I had cracked the crank sensor. But I was able to silicone back together. No probelms since. Just wondering what it did......
Thanks....

As long as everything works it should be A-OK (but you could always blame the Cracked ESS on the origional shop , they would have had to mess with it when removing the front cover during the process of removing the IP)
