Re:Computer problems, help please.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think that it is an upgrade to go from Win2k Pro to XP. Some may think it is a downgrade. Comments out of curiosity?

Definately a downgrade.

I'll stick with 2K as long as Microcrash keeps supporting it.

Very well could be. Like I said.... I know nothing about Win2K Pro. We used Win2K at Texas Instruments right before I retired, but I never messed with the system part of it.
I will say this, anything is better then when we were using DOS commands!

To each his own

I still use dos commands every so often.

Nothing like a huge pkzip command line to take you back

My analytical equipment still uses Dos commands alot. BTW XP didn't like handling the communication routines from it so I am on W2K Pro on the laptop and 98Se on this thing.. :-

I can understand your PKzip statement. :

I see that some of you don't support XP but it has done miracles for me........

Another thing has worked (if you have cable internet and can download updates fast) is to have all my important stuff burned and just reload the operating system. Only had to do that once in years but you know that Windows "grows" constantly........a fresh load + updates will fix a bunch of problems.

Re:Computer problems, help please.

Well, I have no idea what the cause is, but my machine is doing exactly the same thing. Furthermore, my technologist has mentioned that he is having the problem on some of my course websites. All of these sites are using database access, either through .asp or .php files.
Very strange. I think that I will ask him to check for parasites...I do not have the time right now, since I am leaving in the morning to attend the NC Dyno day.
