Check gauge light

Left Reno, NV last night on the freeway check gauge light came on. Look at all the gauges volts were down to 12 and kept dropping. One hour into my trip it all shut down. Charged my batteries with the help of some nice(Durmax) guys from Fallon, NV made it to the muck(Winnemucca, NV).
I believe it's the alternator.? Have to go to Bend, OR at noon. Do you think I am on the right track???? Plz need imput!! Thanks

Sounds right to me. If there is a sears automotive around, they should be able to check your charging system to see if you are right. Make sure they sell you the right alt though.

Make aure all of your connections are good first. IF so it sounds like the alternator went south.. I have been to Bend OR a few times a couple years back. Not a lot around there as far as Auto part stores or dealers as I can remember. You might want to make a few calls up to Redmond OR to see if you can find a new alternator... Good Luck!

Check the big main fuse in the Power distribution center under the hood you could have a shorted alternator feeder cable.

Take a look at your voltage regulator not sure if 06 has that but my 94 did. Also check your fuse box under the hood and see if any blown fuses or bad relays.
