fuel gauge failure then check engine light later
fuel gauge failure then check engine light later
I got in my truck after work today and noticed my fuel gauge quit working( not to long ago my oil pressure gauge quit too) so i tried turning the key on and off a good many times and still nothing went and fueled up and still nothing then later when i got home my check engine light came on and im starting to wonder about my gauge cluster itself. I read in searches about people getting the codes checked at Autozone but we have no Autozone around only a Pep boys and Advance Auto stores. Anyone else have any similar problems?
The precise method for retrieving codes on 2000 an up is thus:
Turn key to "on" (but don't start or bump the starter).
Turn key to off,
Turn key to on,
Turn key to off,
Turn key to on then watch the odometer.
You'll see "P ECM" and "P PCM" flash each followed by a "P XXXX", the X's being numbers.
Write those down then visit http://www.troublecodes.net/chrysler/96-01.shtml to see what they mean.
Sometimes this method doesn't reveal all the codes though.
Both Pep boys and Advance most likely will read the codes for you as well.
