I took the alt to AutoScum to test, but I already knew it would pass even though it was bad. It did pass, but they only had the alternators with dual v-belt pulleys. They tried to get my pulley off and boogered it all up, so I had to go to NAPA and pay about $65 more for their alt. It’s lifetime warranty, but still.

I slapped that baby and reverted to the PCM’s regulator, and it is working perfectly. All the trouble lights have gone off, including the “water” light.

Now I can grind the AFC tang off!

Thanks for everyone’s help.

My "resume" still doesn't work though.... I think it's the $%# clock spring again. I'm going to check the switch with an OHM meter, but it feels fine when I take it out and work it. I don't think I'm up for yanking the steering wheel the change the clockspring though!

Glad to hear you got it working right.

You're my kind of guy - not interested in pulling the steering wheel to fix the cruise, but ready to rip the top off the pump to make more power.

Glad you got it working again.

The moron at my local AutoZone damaged my pulley also. Had to get a new one elsewhere. Went back, and they reimbursed me forth pulley.

Postscript:
Ist day driving the truck, happier than a pig in poo, then the belt fragged! Brand new Gates from Napa.... limped to Napa on threads, go a new belt, limped on less threads to Harbor Freight to get a breaker bar for the auto-tensioner, waited till the engine was cool enough to stop splitting atoms (I found out fingers plump when you cook-em)
then spent much time unthreading belt web from pumps, fans, compressors, and what not, then finally got the new one in. I checked alignment in the pulleys and everything looks good to me. It's possible I didn't put the belt on right last night, in the dark and all!
Hope it holds long enough for me to grind on the PUMP!!!!!!!

Thanks Dave and BMoller!

If the belt frags again, check the tensioner. Either the bearing could be bad, or the pivot point on the tensioner takes a dump.

It's been near 100 every day. The belt held today thank goodness. I'm going to try to get the cryo unit up and running this weekend. I'm considering adding water to the CO2 spray to add capacity (a la siphon tube). I don't think this has been done before, so what the heck!

Hey now would have been the perfect time to rip out that little bicycle alternator out and install a real alternator like I did. I installed a Leece Neville 110-555 OTR unit in place of the ND unit. Instructions are in the Tech Facts. 85 amps @ idle
Anyhow, glad you got it working, it is so frusterating when you can't figure something out..
Jim.

Now you tell me!

An interesting side note:
I noticed that the bad alternator was pumping out so much RF that my garage door opener was being jammed and I even had interference on my FM stations!
