Unhappy A/C quit

My 97 2500 was doing fine. It was a hot day and I was using the a/c. I shut off the engine for an hour or so, when I started it back the a/c wouldn't cool. It blows hot air only. I looked and the compressor is not kicking in. If anyone has ideas where to look I would really appreciate some advice.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Check the freon level.

If you don't have a gauge, you can get a cheap gauge that come's on the can of freon at any auto part's store, or even Wally world.

The inexpensive gauges on a can are for crap. The fact that compressor won't come on is indication of very low system pressure. Take it to a AC repair shop and be done with it. Your safety is involved.

Or a faulty low pressure switch or a high pressure switch or a bad clutch or bad wiring or a few other things. yes the most common thing is low freon but it could be other things. If you dont know about the system then I would advise to take it to someone that does.

Here's a shot that is way out there. Check the fuse for your horn, the one in the PDC under the hood. I tried to use my horn one day and the A/C quit plus the horn didn't work. Same fuse, horn was shorted out. I replaced the fuse and the A/C worked. Sounds like BS I know, but I swear it's true.
