a/c line crack

Well its my fauld I cracked the line (low side) comming right out of the firewall. I can get the whole system evacuated and charged for dirt cheap but the bad thing is the crack is on the evaporator line which means I have to get a new one or pull the entire thing to get it fixed. I need something to get me through the summer (3 more months of hot weather) So I was thinking maybe I could fix/rig it with some sort of epoxy or maybe even JB weld until I feel like pulling the dash apart. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

I highly doubt that JB would hold. If you really want to try to fix it go to a hardware store and there you should be able to find a repair kit for aluminum (I believe the lines are aluminum). I mean the kind where you can use a propane torch to effect repairs. Be careful and keep a live water hose handy.

I've never tried it, but I have heard of others who have patched lines with epoxy of some kind. You might even be able to solder it.

epoxy should hold on the low side, only problem will be when it isn't running and system equalizes. I know we have used epoxy on freezers before. just make sure you get all the oil off the line before applying. might use some emory cloth to scuff it up for some anchor points for epoxy.

Cool thanks for the suggestions. Anyone know how much psi the system is when equalized?

134a can will reach 124 psi at 100 degrees F.be sure and get epoxy for use on alum. might need to try an A/C supply store.

just be careful when checking the system. stay out of the line of fire if epoxy comes loose. it took about 400psi to get the epoxy we used on the freezer coil to come loose. left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing with the regulator. sorry i dont remember the product we used 10 years ago.
