BD Exhaust Brake Troubleshooting

I have been using a BD exhaust brake for about 6 months without any problems up to this point. I installed the brake on pin 20 of the ecm connector instead of the BD wiring that came with the brake kit. It has worked flawlessly until recently. No every now and then the brake will not disenage with the stick shift switch immediately after I shut it off. It seems like the brake is sticking closed for a few seconds. I remember that there was a procedure for cleaning the soleniod in the manual....which seems to have been thrown away. Does anyone know what the procedure is for cleaning and lubricating the soleniod? Does this sound like the problem. If the fuel pedal is pressed the brake with disengage quicker.

Re:BD Exhaust Brake Troubleshooting

I have the exact same set up you do. I did have a slight problem with the brake "sticking". It turned out to be the shifter switch itself. I just replaced it, problem gone.

I've got about 30,000 miles on my brake, used everyday I drive and other than the shifter switch, I've never had a problem. The shifter switch is just an off/on power switch for the pedal mounted micro switch.

I can try and dig up my manual for you and get the cleaning info.

Hope it helps, Jeff

Thanks for the quick reply. I really would like to try cleaning the soleniod if you have the directions still. Did you replace the switch with the same BD supplied switch?

Re:BD Exhaust Brake Troubleshooting

I'm on the prowl for the manual as we speak (type! ;D) As for the shifter switch, any switch will technically work but I just ran down to the local NAPA store and grabbed a generic 2-speed rear axle shifter switch. It's the exact same thing as what BD mounted on my shifter.
