To check the level of the lube, you will find two plugs at the rear of the transfer case. The upper plug is the is the fill plug, and also serves as the full indicator when the oil is level with the threads of the hole. The lower plug is the drain plug for the annual oil change.

The leak is likely either the rear flange seal or the larger seal that surrounds the slip joint on the trunion carrier. Both seals are part of the slip union or splined joint on which the front trunion of the rear driveshaft rides.

Both seals are relatively easy to repair, but pick up a repair manual before you tackle the job.

Check the vent. Make sure it's not blocked and causing pressure to build up.
