Bad Cylinder???

As much as I hate it I think I may have a bad cylinder > :'( . Im blowing an awful lot of oil out of my crank case bleed tube (enough to coat the undercarriage of my truck with a light film of oil).I was told I may have a bad cylinder or maybe a ring. If I am wrong please tell me because Ive been told it is expensive enough that Id be better off buying a new motor, is this true? Has anyone else ran into this before, if so please help. Also if at all possible, can someone tell me about how much $$$ it will cost me to fix minus labor.
Thanks
Wheels

Re:Bad Cylinder???

Check your lift pump for leakage on the engine side of the pushrod. That is the usual cause of excessive blow by and drooling from the draft tube on a 12 valve.

Your mileage is a way low for a problem with a cylinder unless you have been using crappy oil filters or quicky lube oils, and damaged the engine.

An oil analysis and a compression test is dirt cheap at a Cummins Service Center. That will put the issue to bed once and for all.

If a piston is bad, there are good rebuilt engines out there for much less than a new engine.
