Bad AC Comp?

My buddy called me last night. He has a 98 12v CTD, auto. When he turns on his AC, applies the brake, and puts it in drive, the truck chugs and wants to kill. When he takes off all is ok. Or all is normal when his AC is off and he is idling in drive with the brake applied.
I told him it sounded like a bad AC comp to me. Any ideas?
Thanks,

hello, sounds like he needs to raise the idle, with the truck in gear with ac on, bring the idle up to eliminate the symptons.

Have the head pressure at the compressor checked. If it is too high it will really drag on the engine.
