Alternator Problems
I was changing my oil filter and I knocked wires out of my field wire connector. I've tried to re-install the wires back into connector, but now my volt gauge shows 12 volts for about 5 minutes and then slowly drops to 0 volts. I've tried to install the wires into the plug in both dirrections that go into the field connector but neither orientation of the wires seems to make any difference. I get 12 volts out of the field connector when I connect to both wires. I've hooked up a volt meter to my batteries and I get about 12 volts. This seems to low to me. My guess is that my alternator is not charging anymore. I talked to a couple shops around where I live. One told me that my PCM might be blown as the new trucks use the computer to regulate the voltage to the battery. Does anybody have any ideas?

I know the PCM does control voltage and it should be putting out 14.5v + or -. There is a way to hook up an external voltage regulator and bypass the PCM. Do a search.

The 140amp fuse is still good. I've been throwing around the idea of getting a volt regular and just wiring it in just like the dodge did it back in the 70's. I remember hooking up the field wires once or twice in my time backwards with no issues but that was with older cars not this computer stuff. Once you install twins there is no room to remove the oil filter. I remember have a 88 dodge 1/2 that had an alternator with a bracket that held the field wires on the back. This truck the wires came out way way to easy for my liking. Live and learn. Thanks guys for your help
