Airtex Install

OK here's the deal. I bought an Airtex lift pump to replace my old stock pump. I removed the fuel filter housing to gain better access then removed the old pump. All was going smooth until I tried to install the new lift pump. The inlet to the pump either interfears with the dip stick housing or the return fuel line. Even if I get it mounted to the stock bracket I couldn't get the fuel line on. Anyone ever encountered this an if so what is the trick???

I've got an airtex. Did you get just the pump? I got mine in a kit that came with other parts to remotely mount it. Now mine is bolted tot he frame right under the drivers seat. just loud enough for me to faintly hear it every time I turn the key on.

I'm with Charlie. I already had the big line/relocation kit when I installed it and its been great so far. Hopefully you can figure it out but worst case(best case) is to bite the bullet and move it to the frame rail so it doesn't have to work as hard. I'm seeing 18-19 at idle and I can't pull it below 11.

It seems the closer it is to the fuel tank, the easier it works. Plus, if your luck is like mine, the things you can get to easily never seem to fail.

I just installed my new Airtex pump in the stock bracket on Wednesday. stick the inlet of the pump between the block and dipstick housing before you try to put it in the bracket. It was a little hard getting the fuel feed line back on but I got it and it works great, no leaks. 19psi at idle and I am mounted in the stock bracket on the side of the engine with stock fuel lines. Eventually I will put a big line kit on.

Hope that helps.

Just did an airtex yesterday too. Found it easiest to keep the mounting loose or off, then do the outlet side first, inlet second, then tighten everything. Hope that helps.
