Air condition compressor

Air condition compressor froze up about 3000 miles ago. The belt screech when the switch was on. Now the belt screeches no matter where the switch is. Is there any thing I can do just to get home besides getting a new compressor.

What year truck? Please fill out your signature so we know what we are working with. Now if you dont want to fix the a/c the go get a belt for the same truck without a/c.

Yes there is somehthing you can do , any auto parts place will sell you a NON -AC belt , it is shorter , and does not go around the pulley on the a/c compressor. Just tell the parts place what truck you have , and tell them you need a non-ac belt. you will also need a 3/8 ratchet or breaker bar to change it.

Not sure what year you have but the belt routing will be diffrent between AC and NON/AC.
At least it is on a 1st, Gen.

Thank to everone. I got a belt for no air conditioner. I went to 3 parts houses before I found one in stock. Could not get the belt on until I took the bolt out of the alternator to get some slack to slip the belt on. Then put the alternator bolt back in.
