I turned on my air con the other day and no cold air. I have checked the relay- seems ok.
The compressor doesn't seem to be turning. Can I check the magnetic clutch by disconnecting the wiring harness and giving it 12v? Has any one replaced an air conditioner pump or magnetic clutch? I have a vacuum pump available, or would it be smarter to go to a service shop (ughh) and have them evacuate the system. Can I repace the magnetic clutch without removing the pump? I need to fix this before it gets warm around here.

The first thing I check is the refridgerent pressures and go from there. If you don't have guages or experience on A/C systems, it may be cheaper to take it in to a reputable shop, or find a buddy that has the tools and likes beer and you have a refridge full of Moosehead or equivelent.

 

Try jumping out the low pressure/cycle switch and see if you can get the compressor to run. You still need to check the pressures first. If they are ok then try to jump out the switch. Mine went bad last year.
