Son called and said his 01 started cutting out around 70 mph and the cel came on.Anything over 60 mph and it cuts out bad.It has something on it like an edge but he said he shut it off??? He checked the codes (on dash) P-PCU and 1693 campanion code came up.He was headed to S.Carolina from Mo. Any help appreciated...Frank

My '94 did that right before the Fuel shutoff solenoid went in my truck. It would drive fine in 1st - 3rd gear but then as soon as it required some power poof it would shut down. I talked to a few people because at that time I was new to diesels and they said it could be the lift pump going or the solenoid. It was just a guessing game so I tried the fuel solenoid because it looked a little suspicious and the lift pump would still let me hand prime. Hopefully this helps.

Boy. I suspect either fuel filter or lift pump. Did it cut out only at the RPM reached aover 60 mph, or in any gear over that RPM? That might pin it to a supply problem starving the VP44 for fuel, causing the cutting out and CEL. Maybe he got a bad load of fuel, or plugged the filter with wax. What has the temperature been? Partially gelled fuel tank can starve a system, too. Just throwing out ideas...

Before his trip yesterday we serviced it,changed fuel filter etc.I think we can eliminate fuel gelling being it was in the 50's here yesterday, bad fuel, possible. The chip and controller he has in it is an edge. He told me awhile ago the he took the truck out earlier today, turned his chip up and it ran like a scalded dog till it got up to operating temp .After that it started cutting out again .Truck will start good and rev good setting in the drive.I've got a buddy going to bring his scanner out and check the codes. Thanks for the help.

His truck is a 2001...2500... 4x4...6 speed...5" straight pipe ...chipped...105,000 mi.
