Isn't it 5 years/or 100,000 miles?

Treekiller, sounds like you may have a bad alternator, and your batteries can't maintain voltage to the ECM without the battery charger.

I think five is on the track. Somewhere I saw about 9.5-10 volts is about the lower limit for these systems. With healthy batteries in the winter after 3-4 cycles of the grid heaters you can get very close to 10 volts. If the Alt. is even slightly bad, it may not have enough to get the batteries up over this threshold.

Check the batteries first then go after the alt. Once this is done and corrected then we can look at something else.
