98 24 valve wont start w/o help (wd-40 or butane)

This is the first "start / run problem" I have ever had with the truck. It won't start without help from wd-40 or some butane shot into the turbo. once started, runs like a top, no somke, power out the wazzoo, but turn it off, turns over, no start....forget it...

info: 98 2500, auto 220,000 miles, new lift pump, maint. on schedule.

Any recomendations?

Sincerely seeking help

Do you have gages? I know you said new lift pump, but are you getting fuel to the injector pump? If you had a bad lift pump previously, you may have fried the VP44. Have you checked to see if you have any codes? The key method does not work on your truck, so you'll have to use a reader.

VP44 internal leakage, at cranking speed pump does not produce pressure to pop off injectors 450 psi or more. Higher rpm more pressure.

Thanks for the responses guys. We have been dorkin' with it all day, following ya'lls advise. Got the guages and checked all the pressures and the pumps. Then we "accidentally" found an air leak in the quick connect between the fuel tank and the lift pump. Cut off the plastic line, replaced it with fuel line and some clamps and my 8,000. truck is now kickin' up the dust once again.

Thanks for all your help and I will definately be passing on some tips for you guys.

Glad you got it going. It's alway nice when you start with the simple stuff and find the problem.

Be aware of using butane or any other stuff to start it. If the grid heaters come one while your squirting somethig in there, you'll have a potential for a very serious explosion.
