92 D250 E-brake cables unhooked

Cable ends found unhooked inside drum. What keeps the lug from falling out of the c-shaped cutout? Totally stumped on this type of arrangement.

Sounds like someone left them unhooked. They probably couldn't figure out how to put it back together. You have to compress the spring back on the cable end far enough to slip the arm on the cable and hook it in then release the spring and it holds it in place. I use a pair of side cutters to grip the cable thru the spring to hold it until I get the arm in place. Only squeeze tight enough to hold the spring back and don't cut the cable. It takes a few tries to get the hang of it but it is pretty simple once you do. Good luck
