I just left Mopar Nats outside of Columbus Ohio and got about 2 miles, luckily, there is a friend locally that is letting me park it there to fix it. I'm only about 6 hours away from home!
The code p1693 comes up with the engine lt on when you do the key check thing. we had one of those engine tuner programmers and hooked that up to the plug under the dash and got p1690 only. The booklet for the reader says CKP sensor doesn't agree with the PCM ckp sensor.

I'd interpret that to mean the timing has slipped in the injection pump.

Either a timing has slipped or IMO more probably one of the sensors is bad. I'd say you should hope that it's the ECM's CPK that's gone out and not the one in the inj. pump.

Unless you have a really early build I believe the 01's DO NOT have a crank sensor. I know my 01.5 doesn't. I thought they got rid of that in 2000 (if your curious it's located behind the starter for those equipped). I believe the ckp is caluculated from the cmp, but basically comes down to the VP and ECM are not seeing eye to eye. Diag comes down to checking fuel sync signal circuit for open or short to ground. That leaves the ECM or the VP at fault. My money is on the injection pump.
Well, the truck was built 1-00, very early 01. We left it in columbus Oh. at a dealership. I have to call them this morning and see what they say. Nothing like leaving your truck at a dealer 6 hours from home at their mercy!

update from Dodge
Well, I got the call from the Dodge dealer. The fuel filter was plugged and had metal shavings in it. They changed that and checked the psi on the transfer pump. Only 10 psi. 950 bucks for the filter, diagnose, and lift pump / install. Then , hopefully the inj pump will be ok. gee, I hope so!
Oh, I almost forgot. I called Chrysler customer care and they didn't! It has 114000 on it, and only 4 years old. Said no recall or warranty extension on the pumps even though they know darn well they have problems with quality on them.

Yeah, but it's 6 hours away. I called napa- 179.00 , local diesel shop had one in stock for 190.00. But just in case it is more than that, I will have Dodge fix it.
I am having second thoughts about that, I should buy it locally, change it out there and drive it home. It might be too late already.
