91 dodge diesel blowing blue going up hills

I have a 1991 dodge w250 this morning after 20 minutes of driving I started up a long hill about 25 mph. I noticed my power going away--first I checked my guages--everything looked normal--then i looked out of my rear view mirror and saw a bunch of blue smoke. At the top of the hill the engine seemed to run normal. I drove the truck for an hour and seemed OK. I returned later and drove up another long hill the engine didnt loose power but smoked blue again. I checked the turbo discharge tubing and it looked bone dry and clean. Any ideas?

Possible a blocked oil drain form the galley on the head causing oil to pool up when pointed uphill, causing a valve to leak oil. I would pull the valve covers and check for blockages in the oil returns before diving deeper into the engine. Just an Idea.

Sounds like a fuel supply problem. Change the fuel filter first.

Hey wanna not hijacking but the smoke colors are (correct me if wrong)
black too much fuel
white water or coolant
blue oil
light gray haze Full power
Not enough fuel for diesels wont smoke at all right?

Retarded timing will cause blue-ish white smoke. When a VE pump is starved for fuel, the timing retards. That combined with power loss is what leads me to suspect a clogged fuel filter.

These are good guidelines, however if blue smoke means your burnin oil all of the time, then this mornin i must of burnt about a gallon after i started my truck. (It was 5 degrees)

When you're not sure if blue smoke is fuel or oil, just walk into the cloud and take a deep breath...

You'll figure it out pretty quick!
