looks like my cam-shaft doesnt turn no more. thatswhy my mechanical pump doesnt pump, result motor doesnt start. did anyone had something like that? how can that happen? motor just stalled all of a sudden. but i checked the mechanical pump by hand and it has alot of pressure. no fuel at the injectors though. thanks a lot...

ad removed but I agree with patdaly either that or the gear on cam has come loose some how in which most cases hardly ever happens

FWIW, when my KDP got me on Greenie, I had no clue anything had happened, never a burp a clink, nothing, I just noticed the huge puddle of oil under her.

I did not lose a gear, but I doubt it would make as much noise as you would think.

Before you rip the whole front of the engine apart, does the VE front cover have the removable plug like the P7100 pump trucks do? If so, remove the cover and make sure the pump gear isnt turning, if it isn't I would almost say it is a certainty the KDP got you.

If the gears are turning ( pump gear as well ) and the camshaft is not opening and closing the valves, the cam has snapped.

Crank gear turns all the other gears.

Take the valve covers off and turn it over, see if any are opening and closing. If part of them are, and part not, then between the 2 is where she snapped.

Can you get a picture of the front with the timing cover off?

Thats crazy! Is your truck bombed out or something. I have never heard of a stock truck or even lightly modded Cummins snapping a cam. Only ones doing that stuff are the 800+hp monsters out there, not the '91 goat pokers.

Sorry about the luck.(still shaking my head)

That looks like KDP or dropped case bolt damage. Is the KDP still in its hidey-hole? Any bolts missing?

I can say I have seen just that failure before, once in a 4BT, and once in a 5.9, both were in heavy equipment. Can't say I've seen it in a pickup app before.

Seems there was mention of the newer Rotella and cam shaft failures. Any chance this might back that claim up? (I still run Rotella in my 01)

....and how long has that thing been sitting? I don't have that much rust on my whole truck.
